BUDGET EFFICIENCY, WILL PRABOWO CONTINUE THE DEVELOPMENT OF IKN?

THE SUSTAINABILITY of the development of the Indonesian Capital City (IKN) in East Kalimantan is still a question mark after the government implemented budget efficiency. This is because the Minister of Public Works, Dody Hanggodo revealed that no funds have been disbursed for the development of IKN this year.

According to the Deputy Chairman of the MPR, Eddy Soeparno, the sustainability of the IKN development is no longer in question. According to him, the IKN Authority (OIKN) has emphasized that the development will continue. Therefore, Eddy asked all parties not to polemicize about the sustainability of IKN development.

“Let’s follow the direction of President Prabowo who has conveyed that currently the main focus is the completion of the development of legislative, judicial and supporting ecosystem offices,” Eddy said through his statement, Saturday (02/08), 2025.

Eddy believes that Prabowo will make the best decision for the development of IKN. He assessed that Prabowo must have considered everything well and measurably related to the development of IKN.

“The challenge now is the implementation in the government ranks. It is important to focus on following all of President Prabowo’s instructions without exception,” he said.

He also admitted that he had visited the IKN some time ago. According to him, the development of IKN is progressing very fast. He believed that the development of the IKN will continue and become a breakthrough for equitable development in Indonesia.

“After all, when we, the MPR leadership led by Chairman Ahmad Muzani, visited the IKN some time ago, the development was rapid,” he noted.

Earlier, Public Works Minister, Dody Hanggodo revealed that no funds had been disbursed for the IKN this year.

“The implementation of the IKN budget does not seem to be all there. I said earlier, our budget is all blocked, (so we can’t) ask about the progress,” said Minister Dody when met after the working meeting/hearing session with Commission V of the Indonesian House of Representatives at the Senayan Parliament Complex, Jakarta, Thursday (02/6), 2025.

Meanwhile, OIKN spokesman, Troy Pantouw denied that IKN development has stalled. He assured that IKN development progress would continue amidst the issue of massive budget cuts initiated by President Prabowo.

“The IKN Development Program Phase II (2025-2029) aims to prepare facilities and infrastructure with the goal of making Nusantara the political capital of the Republic of Indonesia in 2028,” Troy said when contacted by republika.co.id in Jakarta on Friday (02/7), 2025.

The Special Staff of the Head of OIKN for Public Communication explained OIKN’s commitment to complete the judicial ecosystem and legislative ecosystem along with their supporting facilities and infrastructure in IKN.

Troy conveyed the budget requirement for the IKN Development Program Phase II as directed by the President, which consists of IDR48.8 trillion from APBN and IDR60.93 trillion from KPBU. Then, private investment, the data that will come in 2025 as of February is IDR6.49 trillion. [republika.co.id/photo special]
