SOLO travel is one of the trips that can empower you. From increasing your independence by exploring a foreign city, building your confidence to try new modes of transportation, to enjoying time alone. Your choice of destination also affects your trip.
According to a new report by Kensington, a luxury guided travel service, India tops the list for those who want to travel alone in 2025. The report only takes into account the findings of “affluent” travelers, and the insights are compiled from Kensington’s 2024 data and two external surveys conducted in partnership with Opinium Research and Dig Insight.
The Affluent Traveller Survey report shows that nearly 76 percent of respondents are very open to taking an international solo trip in the next three years, with a small percentage reporting more interest. Although there was a dip in the number of solo travelers after the COVID-19 pandemic, the number has increased again in recent years.
According to Matt Cammaert, SVP of Marketing at Kensington, said solo travelers are increasingly choosing destinations with deep cultural significance and unique landscapes, balanced with independence and seamless, personalized service.
“They want the freedom to explore on their own terms while enjoying expert guidance, exclusive access and itineraries tailored to their interests,” she told Travel+Leisure.
Here’s the full list of Kensington’s top solo travel destinations for 2025: (1). India, (2). Italy, (3). Japan, (4). Egypt, (5). Thailand, (6). Australia, (7). Spain, (8). Iceland, (9). France, (10). New Zealand.
According to the report, India is the top destination for solo travel in 2025. Kensington’s India destination expert, Anit Singh, said that with India’s diversity, cultural depth, spiritual experiences and warm hospitality, travelers can find incredible experiences from the bustling streets of Jaipur to the tranquil backwaters of Kerala.
“With world-class accommodations, renowned wellness retreats and a wealth of history and tradition, it’s no surprise that India continues to top the list for solo travelers seeking adventure and personal transformation,” said Anit.
If you are interested in traveling alone to India, it is a good idea to plan every step carefully to ensure a safe and enjoyable trip. Starting with planning your destination, transportation options, accommodations, and local attractions. As the Times New India reports, safety should be a priority. Make sure you understand the customs, traditions, and local safety guidelines for each destination you plan to visit.
Avoid traveling alone at night, especially in unfamiliar or remote areas. Stay informed about travel advisories or safety issues in the area and trust your instincts; if you feel unsafe in any situation, it is better to cancel. Consider the climate and cultural norms of each destination when selecting clothing and accessories.
