MINISTRY PROPOSES RAISING PROMOTER PERMIT LEVEL TO MAINTAIN EVENT ECOSYSTEM

THE INDONESIAN Ministry of Tourism proposes raising the level of promoter business licenses to maintain the continuity of Indonesia’s event ecosystem.

“This will reduce the negative impact on the event ecosystem in Indonesia,” said Vincent Jemadu, the Deputy for Tourism Products and Organizers of Toueism Minsitry, when contacted by antaranews in Jakarta on Wednesday, May 21, 2025.

After considering the impact arising from the Day6 concert problem, Vincent said the Ministry of Tourism proposed raising the risk level for low-risk promoter service businesses to medium risk.

This is because promoter business licenses are low-risk, so permits are sufficient at the regional government level. However, by raising it to a high-risk permit, promoter certification must be carried out by an authorized agency.

Promoter company certification will make it easier for the government to evaluate promoter companies and event organizers in carrying out music concerts and events. This step is also considered to make it easier for the community to monitor organizers and ensure they work professionally.

The Ministry of Tourism encourages the music concert industry, including promoters and impresarios in the country, to increase the professionalism of their human resources through upskilling, reskilling, and new skilling.

“Additionally, it encourages promoters to improve the standard for organizing music concerts in Indonesia and abroad,” he said.

According to him, one of the challenges promoters faces in holding concerts is the lack of certification and standardization of music concerts in Indonesia and abroad.

The Ministry of Tourism encourages professionalism, a good reputation, and reliability among event organizers because these qualities greatly determine the quality of music concerts and events, ensuring they run without obstacles and are safe, comfortable, and fun.

After the issuance of Presidential Regulation No. 49 of 2024 concerning the National Strategy for Consumer Protection, Vincent added that the tourism sector and creative economy were in the spotlight due to a surge in consumer complaints, reaching 540.

Most of the complaints are about the disorganization of music concerts at the national and international levels. Previously, the Ministry of Tourism summoned Mecimapro, the promoter of a rock concert by the South Korean band Day6, following chaos at the event.

On Wednesday (05/14), a mediation meeting was held in Jakarta with the Deputy for the Development of the Ministry of Tourism, the Indonesian Consumer Protection Agency (BPKN), the Ministry of Investment/BKPM, APMI, and Mecimapro staff, who are the promoters of the Day6 concert in Jakarta.

The meeting aimed to follow up on the previous meeting’s results, clarify issues with the BPKN, and make progress on solving the problems that occurred during the Day6 concert.

At the meeting, it was agreed that Mecimapro would meet the legal requirements according to Capital Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM’s) recommendations and complete the refund process by early June 2025. [antaranews/photo special]
