COORDINATING Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY) has said that the government is targeting to start operating the Thamrin-Monas MRT line and stations in 2027.
To date, the progress of the construction of the Thamrin-Monas MRT lines and stations, included in the CP201 work package, has reached 87 percent.
“According to the timeline, operations can be completed from Thamrin to Monas in 2027. In principle, this is a national strategic project to be supported and monitored by the central government and the Jakarta provincial government,” Yudhoyono said here on Monday (05/26), 2025.
“The continuation of this MRT project has certainly been eagerly awaited by the wider community, especially the people of Jakarta. Transportation has become the heart of the economy and daily mobility of the community amidst issues of congestion and limited land availability in Jakarta,” he said.
He added that hopefully, the technology that is being worked on can reduce congestion and accelerate all transportation that is expected according to the timeline.
According to the director of PT MRT Jakarta (Perseroda), the construction of the CP201 contract package for the Monas-Thamrin MRT Stations is 87.83% complete. The project will be followed by the CP 202 contract package, covering the Harmoni, Sawah Besar, and Mangga Besar stations, that has reached 51.17% completion.
Meanwhile, the development of the CP203 contract package, which includes the Glodok and Kota stations, is 72.12% complete. Data collected by antaranews shows that the investment value of the Jakarta MRT Phase 2A project is estimated to be around IDR25.3 trillion (US$1.5 billion). The project is being financed through a cooperative loan facility arranged by the Indonesian and Japanese governments.
The Phase 2A project includes the construction of a 5.8-kilometer line from Bundaran HI to Kota, with seven underground stations: Thamrin, Monas, Harmoni, Sawah Besar, Mangga Besar, Glodok, and Kota.
Meanwhile, Phase 2B, which is planned to continue the line from Kota to Depo Ancol Barat, is still in the feasibility study stage.
Overall, the investment value for the Jakarta MRT Phase 2 project (Phase 2A and 2B) is estimated to be around IDR45.4 trillion (US$2.7 billion). The project is being funded through the State Budget, regional budget, and foreign loans. [antaranews]
