INDONESIA’s ongoing energy transformation aims to deliver benefits for all citizens, Special Envoy for Climate and Energy, Hashim Djojohadikusumo said ahead of the 30th UN Climate Change Conference (COP30).
“President Prabowo Subianto’s administration is moving quickly to reduce coal dependence, expand renewable energy and biofuels, and advance the use of biodiesel and bioethanol,” he said at the Belém Leader Summit in Brazil on Thursday (11/06), 2025.
He emphasized that the goal is not only to strengthen energy security but also to ensure equitable benefits from the transition.
He noted that President Prabowo recently issued Presidential Regulation No. 109 on Waste Energy and Presidential Regulation No. 110 on the Economic Value of Carbon, which serve as instruments for financing national decarbonization and frameworks for controlling greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.
Hashim highlighted the enhanced 2030 Forestry and Other Land Use (FOLU) Net Absorption Program as a key pillar of Indonesia’s climate commitment, targeting a net reduction of 92–118 million tons of CO2 equivalent by 2030.
He also underlined Indonesia’s plan to increase the renewable energy share to 23 percent of the national energy mix by 2030.
“This includes the development of other technologies such as nuclear power as part of our clean energy transition,” he said.
The Belém Leader Summit, held on November 6–7, gathered world leaders to discuss global climate action. It served as a preparatory meeting for COP30, scheduled for November 10–17 in Brazil. Hashim led the Indonesian delegation to the summit. [antaranews]
