TWO toll road sections which are part of the mega South Java Trans Toll Road infrastructure project to connect cities in South Java are currently being accelerated for construction. The two toll road projects are the Yogyakarta Cilacap Toll Road which has a length of 121.75 km and the Getaci Toll Road (Gedebage-Tasikmalaya-Cilacap) which has a length of 206.65 km.
The construction of this toll road aims to increase connectivity and economic activities in the southern region of Java, including developing the tourism sector. If the two toll road sections are connected, then the travel time from Bandung (BDG), West Java to Yogyakarta and vice versa will feel short.
The estimate is that the Traffic Law states that the speed limit for driving on toll roads is a minimum of 60 km per hour and a maximum of 100 km per hour.
If you take an average speed of 80 km per hour, then Bandung-Cilacap (206.65 km) can be reached in less than 3 hours. Then Cilacap-Yogyakarta, 121.75 km, can be reached in less than 1.5 hours.
That means the distance from Bandung to Yogyakarta with a total length of 328.40 km can be covered in less than 5 hours. This duration can be faster if you drive the vehicle above 80 km per hour.
Travel time via the Getaci Toll Road connected to the Cilacap Cilacap Toll Road really saves time. In fact, if you take the national road, Bandung-Yogya takes 8 hours if normal and 12 hours or more if there is traffic jam.
Development Progress
The progress of the construction of the Yogyakarta Cilacap toll road is currently still in the initial planning and land preparation stages, with a focus on land acquisition in the affected areas (Cilacap, Kebumen, Purworejo, Banyumas).
The initial construction of the Cilacap Cilacap Toll Road, which is a National Strategic Project (PSN), has started running since 2025 and will be carried out until 2027.
At the same time, the construction of the Getaci Toll Road in West Java is currently being accelerated to complete the land acquisition process and payment of compensation money (UGR) to affected land owners.
The construction of the Getaci Toll Road will be carried out in 2 stages. Stage 1 Gedebage-Tasikmalaya is around 95 km long and Stage 2 Tasikmalaya-Cilacap is around 111 km long. Phase 1 of the Gedebage-Tasikmalaya segment will be built first and then work on the Getaci Toll Road Phase 2 Tasikmalaya-Cilacap will follow.
The first phase of the Gedebage-Tasikmalaya segment of the Getaci Toll Road will enter the auction process in 2026, followed by construction and is scheduled to be completed and operational in 2029.
During a working visit to Bandung in early November 2025, the Minister of Public Works (PU), Dody Hanggodo, explained that the Gedebage-Tasikmalaya section of the Getaci toll road project (Cigatas Toll Road) has the potential to be realized more quickly.
“The Gedebage-Tasikmalaya section has the potential to be realized more quickly because it has investment attractiveness and higher traffic levels,” he said.
By connecting the Yogyakarta Cilacap Toll Road with the Getaci Toll Road, inter-city and inter-regional connectivity in West Java with Central Java and DIY will be faster and smoother. Moreover, these two toll road sections will also be connected to the Pejagan-Cilacap toll road section which connects the southern region of Java with the northern region of Java.
