HK-SURABAYA DIRECT FLIGHTS SERVICE COULD INCREASE THE FLOW OF TOURISTS

DEPUTY for Marketing at the Ministry of Tourism, Ni Made Ayu Marthini, said that the opening of the Greater Bay Airlines direct flight service on the Hong Kong (HK)-Surabaya route could increase the flow of tourists between Hong Kong and Indonesia.

“The presence of this direct flight is a proactive step in accommodating the increase in foreign tourist visits from Hong Kong to Indonesia,” he said as quoted in the ministry’s press statement confirmed in Jakarta on Tuesday (9/29), 2026.

Greater Bay Airlines starting September 25 2026 will provide direct flight services on the Hong Kong-Surabaya route three times a week, namely every Wednesday, Friday and Sunday.

The airline operates a 189-seat aircraft to fly passengers from Hong Kong International Airport to Juanda International Airport on Greater Bay Airlines’ inaugural flight service from Hong Kong to Surabaya on Friday (9/25).

Made said that opening direct flight services from Hong Kong to Surabaya could increase the accessibility and competitiveness of Indonesian tourist destinations, especially tourist destinations in the city of Surabaya and East Java Province.

The Ministry of Tourism said that the number of foreign tourist visits from Hong Kong to Indonesian territory from January to July 2026 was recorded at 87,631 visits, an increase of 25.97 percent from 69,567 visits in the same period the previous year.

Juanda International Airport during 2025 will rank third in the list of entry points for many foreign tourists from Hong Kong, with a total of 4,183 visits.

Increasing connectivity between Hong Kong and Surabaya has the potential to increase foreign tourist visits from Hong Kong to the city of Surabaya and the province of East Java.

“The presence of this direct route is a strategic opportunity to maximize this positive momentum while increasing future tourist visits,” said Made.

“Surabaya also offers a variety of interesting experiences for Hong Kong tourists, ranging from culinary riches, cultural heritage, urban attractions, to nature-based tourism,” she concluded. [traveltext.id]
