RI TARGETS BRITISH TOURISTS IN GLASGOW, MANCHESTER AND AT WTM LONDON 2026

THE MINISTRY of Tourism is expanding its promotional reach—positioning Indonesia (RI) as a premier global tourism destination—through the “Wonderful Indonesia United Kingdom Sales Mission 2026” in Glasgow and Manchester, alongside participation in the World Travel Market (WTM) London 2026.

The promotional series begins with a sales mission at the Crowne Plaza, Glasgow, on October 27, 2026, followed by another at the Hyatt Regency, Manchester, on October 29, 2026. Subsequently, Indonesia will participate in WTM London 2026, held from November 3–5, 2026, at ExCeL London, United Kingdom.

According to Ni Made Ayu Marthini, Deputy for Marketing Tourism Ministry, stated in Jakarta on Wednesday (10/28), 2026 that Indonesia’s participation in WTM London 2026 and the sales missions in Glasgow and Manchester serve as a strategic move to sustain the growth momentum of international tourist arrivals, particularly from the European region.

“Our active participation in WTM London 2026 and the series of sales missions in Glasgow and Manchester demonstrate a concrete commitment to expanding our market reach in the United Kingdom. Through the #GoBeyondOrdinary campaign, we aim to present a more profound tourism narrative—one that highlights not only our natural beauty but also our rich culture, gastronomy, and high-value, authentic experiences,” said Ni Made Ayu Marthini.

In executing these initiatives, the Ministry of Tourism has collaborated with the Indonesian Tourism Promotion Alliance (APPI) to organize the “Wonderful Indonesia United Kingdom Sales Mission 2026.” The event involves 10 representatives from the Indonesian tourism industry, spanning the hospitality sector, tour operators, and tourist attraction management.

Through in-person business meetings with travel industry professionals in Glasgow and Manchester, each sales mission aims to engage over 40 potential business partners. These meetings are intended to expand the distribution network for Indonesian tourism products, showcase developments in various destinations, and create opportunities for collaboration between the Indonesian tourism industry and partners in the United Kingdom.

Following these sales missions, Indonesia will be featured at WTM London 2026 with a 352.75-square-meter “Wonderful Indonesia” pavilion (booth N8-220), centered around a marine theme. The Ministry of Tourism will participate alongside 70 national tourism industry players from nine provinces, comprising 47 co-exhibitors and 23 representatives from five official partners.

The five official partners supporting Indonesia’s participation are Discovery Hotels & Resorts, Bank Indonesia, the North Sumatra Regional Government, Tanjung Kelayang Reserve, and InJourney.

WTM London is a major global tourism trade exhibition that brings together industry professionals, buyers, media, and stakeholders from around the world. Indonesia’s participation serves as an opportunity to increase the visibility of its destinations, build business relationships, and introduce value-added tourism products and packages to the international market.

In line with the “Upscale Tourism” program, Indonesia’s promotional efforts focus on high-value travel experiences, including marine tourism, gastronomy, wellness tourism, traditional Indonesian textiles (wastra Nusantara), and Muslim-friendly tourism. These offerings will be showcased through key destinations, including 10 Priority Tourism Destinations and three Regenerative Tourism Destinations.

Through the #GoBeyondOrdinary campaign, the Ministry of Tourism aims to build an image of Indonesia as a destination that offers more meaningful travel experiences—ranging from exploring natural and marine wonders to engaging with local communities and discovering the archipelago’s diverse culture and gastronomy.

The Ministry of Tourism is optimistic that the “Wonderful Indonesia United Kingdom Sales Mission 2026” and participation in WTM London 2026 will help expand industry partnerships, unlock business opportunities, and enhance the competitiveness of Indonesian tourism within the UK and global markets.
