WISHNUTAMA: CAPACITY SEATS & FOREIGN TOURISTS TARGET DID NOT CONNECT

MINISTER of Tourism and Creative Economy Wishnutama Kusubandio said the seat capacity on flights to Indonesia was not comparable to the target of foreign tourists’ visits targeted by the government.

“We see Thailand for example, there are 57 million seat capacity. Indonesia is far below that. So, when we calculated the seat capacity with the target of 20 million last year, it was disconnected. Unless tourists were told to swim to Indonesia,” Wishnutama said after the coordination meeting at the Jakarta Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing. The coordination meeting was chaired by the Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan and was attended by the minister and ministry officials under his coordination.

Former CEO of NET TV even said that the capacity of flight seats is even a major problem apart from the outbreak of the corona virus which currently has a major impact on the tourism sector.

“The most important thing, what is important is that I told Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan and the ministers under Maritime Affairs & Investment coordination that the most important thing apart from the corona virus is the seat capacity towards Indonesia,” he added.

Therefore, the government, Wishnutama continued, will try to increase the capacity of flight seats to Indonesia. He claimed to have spoken with a number of airlines both national airlines such as Garuda Indonesia and international airlines.

“Only a few airlines, and there will be further meetings. Not finished. In addition, the government will also create new travel packages to attract tourists. All efforts are also being made to boost tourism which is currently hit by a severe blow due to the epidemic of the corona virus,” he concluded. [antaranews/photo traveltext]
