FOREIGN TOURIST VISITS MARCH 2021 UP 14.45%, DOMINANT LAND ROUTE

THE number of foreign tourist arrivals in March 2021 was recorded to have increased on a monthly basis. The visit was dominated by tourists from Timor Leste who entered by land route.

According to Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) data, the number of foreign tourist visits in March 2021 has increased by 14.54% compared to February 2021. Of the 132,600 foreign tourists in March 2021, the number of foreign tourists visiting through air entrances was 12,850, through sea entrances was 40,850, and land entrances as many as 78,890 visits.

Judging from the air entrances, the number of foreign tourist visits to Indonesia in March 2021 decreased drastically by 94.96% compared to the number of foreign tourist visits in March 2020. Meanwhile, through sea entrances, the number of foreign tourist visits decreased by 63.30%, from 111,320. visits in March 2020 to 40,850 visits in March 2021.

From land entrances, the number of foreign tourist visits in March 2021 decreased by 34.13% compared to March 2020. Based on nationality, the number of foreign tourists visiting from Timor Leste was 65,190 visits or 49.17%, followed by Malaysia with 41,100 visits (30.99%) , China 8,500 visits (6.41%), Singapore 2,580 visits (1.95%), and Papua New Guinea 2,430 visits (1.83%).

“This figure is still far from being compared to 2020,” said Deputy for Statistics, Distribution and Services, BPS Setianto in a virtual press conference, Monday (3/2/2021).

Cumulatively, the number of visits by foreign tourists or foreign tourists to Indonesia for the January-March 2021 period reached 385,590 visits. This condition drastically decreased by 85.45% compared to the number of foreign tourist visits in the same period the previous year, which amounted to 2.65 million visits. [antaranews/photo special]
