FOREIGN tourist arrivals in Indonesia in June 2021 were 140,850 or decreased by 10.04% compared to the number of visits in June 2020.
According to the Head of the Central Statistics Agency, Margo Yuwono when holding a virtual press conference, Monday (7/2) said from this graph it is very clear that there has been no significant improvement in foreign tourist visits when compared to 2020 and 2019.
“This foreign tourist visit is relatively low compared to the previous year. with conditions in previous years. We are devastated. This is because the pandemic is still hitting and there is a ban on foreign visits to Indonesia,” he said.
When compared to the situation in May 2021, he continued that the number of foreign tourist visits in June 2021 also decreased by 7.71%. Of the 140,850 foreign tourist visits in June 2021, the number of foreign tourists visiting using air transportation modes is 16,230 thousand visits, sea transportation modes are 34,170 visits, and land transportation modes are 90,440 visits.
Meanwhile, foreign tourists coming from the African region in July 2021 had the highest percentage increase of 581.97% when compared to the number of foreign tourist arrivals in June 2020. On the other hand, foreign tourists coming from the ASEAN region decreased by 37.86%.
“When viewed by nationality, the majority of foreign tourists who came to Indonesia came from Timor Leste nationality with a total of 76,850 thousand visits (54.56%), followed by Malaysia with 37,850 thousand visits (26.87%), China with 6,660 visits (4.73%), the United States with 2,260 visits (1.60%) and the Netherlands with 1,990 visits (1.41%),” Margo remarked.
He explained that cumulatively in January-June 2021, the number of foreign tourist visits to Indonesia reached 802,380 visits, a decrease of 74.33% compared to the number of foreign tourist visits in the same period the previous year which amounted to 3.13 million visits.
“The number of foreign tourists visiting from January to June 2021 consists of foreign tourists visiting using air transportation modes as many as 70,290 thousand visits, sea transportation modes as many as 229,130 visits, and land transportation modes as many as 502,960 visits,” he concluded.
