RI IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE 10 COUNTRIES WITH HIGHEST GLOBAL COVID-19 CASES

PRESIDENT Joko Widodo (Jokowi) said Indonesia (RI) was not included in the 10 countries with the highest COVID-19 cases in the world, even though Indonesia’s population is the fourth largest among the world’s countries.

“Thanks God, cases of COVID-19 continue to show a downward trend. We are very optimistic, but we must always be vigilant. As the country with the fourth largest population in the world, Indonesia is not in the top 10 with the highest number of cases in the world,” President Jokowi said in his online remarks at the UOB Economic Outlook 2022, monitored in Jakarta, Wednesday (9/15).

The President said daily cases of COVID-19 continued to decline sharply. On July 15, 2021, Indonesia experienced a spike in cases of up to 56,000 daily cases. Now the daily addition of cases has decreased to 2,577 cases, based on September 13, 2021 data.

The percentage of daily COVID-19 cases in Indonesia currently reaches 13.6 daily cases per 1 million population, far below neighboring ASEAN countries.

“The hospital occupancy rate (BOR) is also gradually decreasing. The national BOR is at 13.8% and the BOR for the Wisma Atlet COVID-19 Emergency Hospital, which previously had reached 92%, has now fallen to 7%,” he said.

As of September 12, 2021, Indonesia’s daily transmission rate or positivity rate was 2.64% or better than the world average of 8.34%.

“Our recovery rate is 94.03%, above the world average of 89.59 percent. Regarding vaccination, it has been distributed to 34.94 percent or 72.76 million Indonesians. Meanwhile, in terms of dosage, 42.2% the vaccine dose has been injected into the community,” said the President.

He added, we will continue to increase vaccination, vaccination speed. However, we must be vigilant, always disciplined with health protocols, always wear masks. [antaranews]
