THROUGH GASTRODIPLOMACY, TOURISM MINISTRY WANTS TEMPE TO BE GLOBAL

THE INDONESIA’S Tourism and Creative Economy Ministry has encouraged tempe to become the superiority of Indonesian food so that it can become global.

According to Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, Sandiaga Uno, at the Weekly Press Briefing of the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy, Jakarta, Monday (10/4) said I am a fan of tempe and once tempe became one of the viral issues, it turns out that tempe has many fans, especially those related to gastrodiplomacy.

“As a gastrodiplomacy effort, Tourism Ministry will continue to coordinate with the Ministry of Trade, the Ministry of Cooperatives and SMEs, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Indonesian representatives around the world, as well as the business world industry and associations,” he said.

He further said that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs had carried out gastrodiplomacy through the Indonesian Embassy (KBRI) with the implementation of a number of activities abroad.

“Good news from our consulate, soon tempe consumers in Kansai, Japan, will be able to enjoy Indonesian tempe at the Gyomu Supaa supermarket chain (one of the largest supermarkets in Japan). Tempe is increasingly in demand by Japanese citizens because it is classified as a healthy and nutritious food,” he noted.

The tempe gastrodiplomacy is referred to as part of the Indonesia Spice up the World or a colossal program with the concept of Indonesia Incorporated which will last until 2024 to encourage various Indonesian culinary delights, such as tempeh, to become more global.

In this case, the Ministry of Tourism is collaborating with Google and the Indonesia Gastronomy Network to create a special page to introduce various Indonesian cuisines.

“So, this spice up the world will be published on Google Art and Culture. In September, the Ministry of Tourism also held initial talks with the Nusantara Fermentation Forum in order to invite them to be the initiator of the Tempe for Life program as an introduction to tempeh products to the world,” he stated.

He concluded, we hope that we will not only be known for batik, wayang, or keris, but also tempeh. [traveltext.id/photo special]
