INDONESIA-CAMBODIA TO CONTINUE COOPERATION IN THE TOURISM SECTORS

INDONESIA and Cambodia have signed a memorandum of understanding to continue cooperation in the tourism sector for the two countries in the ASEAN region.

Indonesian Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, Sandiaga Uno and the Minister of Tourism of the Kingdom of Cambodia, Dr Thong Khon in Jakarta and Sihanoukville, Tuesday (1/18) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to continue cooperation in the tourism sector for the two countries. The cooperation is carried out virtually by signing a Memorandum of Understanding.

According to the Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, Sandiaga Uno said, I appreciate that bilateral cooperation between Indonesia and the Kingdom of Cambodia is getting stronger. It also emphasized that the two countries are committed to accelerating the recovery of the tourism industry for the welfare of the people and as part of the problem of national economic recovery.

The MoU is a renewal of the Memorandum of Understanding in the field of Tourism which was previously agreed upon by the two countries on March 16, 1999. With the signing of this memorandum of understanding, it shows the commitment of the two countries to continue cooperation and strengthen the bonds of friendship that have been established, especially in the fields of tourism and culture.

This Memorandum of Understanding focuses on the areas of cooperation, namely Tourism Promotion and Marketing Cooperation, Tourism Destination Management, Private Sector Cooperation, Capacity Building, MICE, and Event and Connectivity Cooperation.

The Indonesia’s Ministry of Tourism, under direct instructions from President Joko Widodo, has prepared focused, targeted and measurable steps for the overall recovery plan for Indonesia’s tourism. Preparations have been carried out in a rigorous but careful manner to ensure the safety and peace of mind of visitors once they return to Indonesia.

“Therefore, by participating in the 2022 ASEAN Tourism Forum (ATF), Indonesia is confident that it can maintain its position as top of mind for buyers as a world-class tourist destination,” he said.

The signing of the MoU was carried out in the framework of the 25th Meeting of ASEAN Tourism Ministers (M-ATM) which was held at the Kingdom of Wonder, Cambodia. Cambodia will delegate the leadership role of the ASEAN Tourism Forum (ATF) to Indonesia from January 2022 to January 2023.
