INDONESIA FOCUSES ON IMPROVING THE QUALITY OF TOURISM IN ASEAN REGION

INDONESIA through the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy stated that improving the quality of tourism professionals by adopting technology in the ASEAN region will be the main focus in developing tourism and the creative economy in 2022.

According to the Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, Sandiaga Uno, in the event ‘The 25th Meeting of The ASEAN Tourism Ministers Meeting’, which was attended virtually, from Jakarta, Wednesday (1/19), said that in the future it is hoped that tourism professionals will not only expand their skills and qualified talent in the ASEAN region only, but also in other countries, such as Japan, Korea, Australia, and New Zealand.

Sandiaga said economists believe that opening up investment can contribute significantly to economic recovery in a region. Likewise with the tourism sector and the creative economy, which can invest in improving skills for professionals.

“For Indonesia, our direction is clear, this year we will focus more on the ASEAN tourism professional environment. By encouraging the use of technology, as well as facilitating professionals. Thus, they can supply their skills and talents not only within the ASEAN region. But also with other countries, such as China, Japan, Korea, Australia and New Zealand,” said Sandiaga.

“So maybe, one day we can measure our success in the ASEAN region not only by the number of international tourist arrivals. However, there is also an increasing number of skilled tourism professionals in ASEAN,” he continued.

For this reason, Minister Sandiaga invited all parties in the ASEAN region to be able to provide support in empowering their best talents, so that the tourism and creative economy sectors can recover and business opportunities are opened again.

“Our support will be expanded in more partial programs and activities, which can be discussed in special meetings or in working group discussions,” he remarked.

Meanwhile, the Secretary of the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy, Ni Wayan Giri Adnyani, added that in improving tourism professionals, the Indonesian Tourism Ministry carried out several activities.

“Among them, competency development in the Meetings, Incentives, Conventions & Exhibitions (MICE) field and organizing events in the ASEAN region in accordance with competency standards. In addition, working with a private public partnership pattern to help improve the skills of tourism professionals and use technology,” she concluded. [traveltext.id]
