THE VALIDITY PERIOD OF INDONESIAN PASPORTS WILL BE EXTENDED TO 10 YEARS

THE VALIDITY period of Indonesian passports, which was originally five years, will be extended to 10 years, according to Minister of Law and Human Rights (Permenkumham) Regulation No. 18 of 2022 which takes effect on Thursday (9/29).

According to the Sub-Coordinator of Public Relations of the Directorate General of Immigration, Achmad Nur Saleh, as quoted by Kompas.com, said the validity period of an ordinary passport was a maximum of 10 (ten) years from its issuance,” reads Article 2A paragraph 1 of the Minister of Law and Human Rights Number 18 of 2022 concerning Ordinary Passports and Travel Letters Like Passports. .

“However, regarding when passports with a validity period of 10 years begin to be applied, the Immigration Office said that currently it is still in the preparation stage. More will be informed. We will convey it through a press release,” said Achmad.

Requirements for applying for a passport
According to the Permenkumham which was signed by the Minister of Law and Human Rights Yasonna H Laoly, ordinary passports with a maximum validity period of 10 years are only given to Indonesian citizens (WNI) who are 17 years old or already married.

For Indonesian citizens who are domiciled or residing in the territory of Indonesia, the application for a passport is usually submitted to the Minister or Immigration Officer appointed at the immigration office.

The number of documents required to apply for an ordinary passport consists of: (1). Valid identity card, (2). Family card, (3). Birth certificate, marriage certificate or marriage book, diploma, or baptismal certificate, (4). Indonesian citizenship letter for foreigners who acquire Indonesian citizenship through citizenship or submission of a statement to choose citizenship in accordance with the provisions of laws and regulations, (5). Letter of stipulation for change of name from authorized official for those who have changed name, (6). Old ordinary passport for those who already have a regular passport. [sources/photo special]
