THE MINISTRY of Transportation has noted an increase in the number of domestic air passengers during the Lebaran Mudik (Eid travellers) 2025 period.
This increase is in line with the policy of reducing the price of domestic economy air tickets by 13-14%, which is valid for 15 days, namely for flights from March 24 to April 7, 2025, with a ticket purchase period from March 1 to April 7, 2025.
Based on the daily report of the Integrated Lebaran (Eid) Transportation Post 2025, the movement of domestic air passengers on March 24, 2025 or H-7 reached 200,401 passengers, an increase of 7.7% compared to 2024.
According to the head of the Public Communication and Information Bureau, Budi Rahardjo in his official statement, Tuesday (03/25), 2025 conveyed the policy of reducing the ticket price was aimed at easing travel costs for people who wanted to go home, and encourage increased mobility during the Eid period.
“Through this reduction in ticket prices, it is hoped that people can enjoy a more affordable, comfortable and safe travel during the Lebaran Mudik 2025 period. We see a high level of public enthusiasm for this policy. The ticket prices have helped to increase the accessibility of air travel for travelers, which is reflected in the significant increase in the number of air passengers,” Budi said.
In addition, several major airports recorded the highest increase in domestic passenger traffic. Soekarno-Hatta Airport (CGK) recorded 56,060 passengers as of March 24, 2025, an increase of 7% compared to last year. The domestic route with the highest number of passengers is Jakarta-Medan (CGK-KNO) with 5,487 passengers and a load factor of 98.60%.
The Ministry of Transportation continues to coordinate with airlines and airport authorities to ensure the smooth running of the homecoming and maintain the timeliness of flights.
“So far, the timeliness of domestic flights reached 82.47%, while international flights reached 86.81%. In addition to air transportation, based on data from the Lebaran Integrated Eid Transportation Post 2025, the total public transportation in H-7 increased by 0.84%from the same period in 2024 or as many as 857,583 people,” he added.
As for the details of road transportation by 125,545 people or down 1.33%, railways 307,383 passengers or up 22.62%, crossing by 177,122 passengers or up 22.62%, and sea transportation 16,906 passengers or down 74, 91%.
Cumulatively, the number of public transport departures from H-10 to H-7 reached 3,622,313 people, or up 35.65% compared with the same period last year. The number is dominated by train passengers, which is 1,281,590 people or an increase of 96.35%.
According to Budi, the WFA (Work from Anywhere) and FWA (Flexible Working Arrangement) policies, which started on March 24, were observed to be able to distribute the density of movement to be more evenly distributed.
“It is hoped that at the estimated peak of the return flow later, the number of spikes in the number of travelers’ movements will not be too significant,” he concluded.
Budi hopes that with the WFA/FWA policy, and being advanced by school children’s holidays, it can be used by the community as best as possible by managing the homecoming schedule and departing early. The Department of Transportation will continue to monitor the evolution of the homecoming flow and provide the best service to the community. [sources/special photo]
