MINISTRY ENCOURAGES MORE EQUITABLE TOURISM INVESTMENT ACROSS RI

THE INDONESIAN Ministry of Tourism is encouraging equitable distribution of sustainable tourism investment so that it is not only concentrated in Bali but also reaches various potential destinations throughout Indonesia (RI).

According to Tourism Minister Widiyanti Putri Wardhana, at the 2026 Investor Roundtable held at Piasan Nusa Dua Restaurant, Bali, on Friday (05/29), said Indonesia recorded 15.39 million international tourist visits, with nearly 7 million of these visits concentrated in Bali.

“This figure demonstrates the growing international confidence in Indonesia as a tourism and investment destination, and Bali remains the heart of national tourism growth,” said the Minister of Tourism.

Furthermore, the high concentration of investment in several areas of Bali, such as Canggu, Seminyak, Uluwatu, and Ubud, demonstrates the need for an equitable investment strategy so that the economic benefits of tourism can be felt more widely across Indonesia.

“Indonesia is not just Bali. We have many leading destinations with enormous tourism and investment potential, which are still waiting to be developed responsibly and sustainably,” she said.

As a concrete step, the Ministry of Tourism is prioritizing the development of 10 Priority Tourism Destinations and other Regenerative Tourism Destinations as new growth centers expected to expand the distribution of economic benefits, create jobs, and improve the welfare of communities in various regions.

These efforts align with global tourism trends that increasingly emphasize the principles of sustainability, wellness tourism, and authentic and meaningful travel experiences.

Therefore, the Minister of Tourism encourages investors to explore the growing opportunities in Indonesia’s leading destinations beyond Bali, in order to build a more balanced, inclusive, and sustainable tourism industry.

Through this Investor Roundtable forum, the Ministry of Tourism is also actively gathering input from investors, local governments, associations, and tourism businesses regarding various challenges in the field and the support needed to strengthen the investment climate in the tourism sector.

This input will be a crucial part of formulating greener, more inclusive, competitive, and equitable tourism investment policies in the future.

Tourism Minister Widiyanti also announced plans to develop an Application Programming Interface (API)-based verification system to ensure all accommodations marketed through digital platforms have obtained business permits. This initiative aims to improve the quality of governance in the tourism business ecosystem in the accommodation sector, particularly in Bali.

Meanwhile, Rizki Handayani, Acting Deputy for Industry and Investment at the Ministry of Tourism, stated that this strategic forum brings together government officials, the Bali Provincial Government, tourism associations, investors, and business actors in an open and constructive dialogue.

According to Rizki, the forum serves as a platform to map current industry dynamics, identify challenges faced by business actors, and explore opportunities for investment expansion into various new destinations in Indonesia.

Therefore, the experience and input from tourism industry players in Bali are considered strategically valuable as references in the development of national priority destinations.

“We view this input as invaluable, not only for strengthening Bali’s tourism investment ecosystem, but also as important learning experiences for the development of the 10 Priority Tourism Destinations and other Regenerative Tourism Destinations,” Rizki concluded. [traveltext.id]
