BI STRENGTHENS INDONESIA’s POSITION AS A GLOBAL COFFEE PRODUCER THROUGH JCFF

BANK Indonesia (BI) is striving to strengthen Indonesia’s position as the world’s fourth-largest coffee producer through the annual Java Coffee, Flavors, and Festival (JCFF) 2026 in Surabaya, East Java.

“If we look at the data, there are four global coffee producers, and Indonesia is number four,” said Rifki Ismal, Deputy Head of the Bank Indonesia Representative Office (KPw BI) for East Java Province, in Surabaya, Saturday (07/18), 2026.

He explained that there are four coffee producing countries in the world: Brazil, Vietnam, Colombia, and Indonesia.

Rifki explained that Indonesia’s coffee production reaches 780,000 tons per year, with East Java being one of the largest contributors nationally, particularly in the Java region, producing 53,000 tons per year.

“East Java produces the highest coffee production, with 53,000 tons, while Central Java and West Java produce approximately 25,000 tons,” he said.

According to Rifki, Bank Indonesia wants to develop this abundant coffee production potential to strengthen Indonesia’s position as a global coffee producer through exports.

Furthermore, Indonesian coffee producers are primarily Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), so expanding their market share will have a multiplier effect on the economy.

He stated that Bank Indonesia supports the development and expansion of the local coffee market through the 2026 Jakarta Coffee Fair (JCFF), which features various business matching and coaching events.

The business matching festival, which will take place from July 17-19, 2026, at Surabaya’s City Square, will connect MSMEs with buyers from both national and global markets.

Rifki expressed optimism that the 2026 JCFF will surpass the previous year’s event, which attracted approximately 130,000 visitors and total transactions reaching IDR107 billion (approximately US$8.6 million) over the three days.

He said that optimism is quite high because there are more than 60 MSME tenants involved, including 41 coffee MSMEs fostered by Bank Indonesia, as well as MSMEs selling other products such as chocolate, tea, and herbs and spices.

“Thank God, last year we reached IDR107 billion. This year, we expect higher transactions because we’re involving not only coffee, tea, and chocolate, but also many other products,” he concluded. [antaranews]
