INDONESIA’S Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy invites the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB), the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), and the Center for Volcanology, Mitigation and Geological Disasters (PVMBG) in a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) forum to design a tourism and creative economic catalog disaster-prone in 5 super priority destinations (SPD).
According to the Head of the Communications Bureau, Vinsensius Jemadu, in Jakarta, Wednesday (9/6), said the tourism ecosystem, especially in the 5 SPDs, is still very vulnerable to various disturbances and disasters, which if not managed properly will certainly have an impact on the tourism sector. Where there are 13 million Indonesians who are economically dependent on this sector.
For this reason, collaboration between the Ministry of Tourism and cross-agency namely BMKG, BNPB, and PVMBG is very much needed, in order to create a strong comprehensive tourism information system, so that it can be used by all stakeholders in the tourism sector in mitigating disasters.
“Disaster information and its mitigation is something that must be present in every tourist destination in order to create peace for tourists. Therefore, it is important to collaborate with BNPB, BMKG, and PVMBG to be able to find, design a map for tourism destinations that are sensitive to disasters so that we can mitigate the risk,” said Vincent.
Vincent explained that the preparation of an information system in dealing with disasters can also be used as a reference for the government in minimizing disaster risk in tourism destinations.
“Apart from being an effort to increase awareness and preparedness of tourism stakeholders both at the center and in the regions. This catalog can also make tourists travel with a sense of comfort and safety,” Vinsensius noted.
Meanwhile, the Head of the Center for Technical Seismology, Potential Geophysics and BMKG Time Signs, Rahmat Triyono, explained that apart from providing information on disaster-prone and mitigation, catalogs are needed so that tourists can travel safely and reduce the risk of becoming victims of disasters.
“Not only showing beauty but providing information on whether there are disaster-prone areas, what are the threats so that it will become a catalog later. So the concept is not just any beauty but disaster mitigation. The hope is not only to invite people to travel but also to take steps if there is a disaster. Looking at the catalog, there is already complete information,” Rahmat added.
Likewise, the Acting Head of the PVMBG Administration/Earth Investigator, Yunara Dasa Triana, said the Geological Agency, through PVMB, was ready to cooperate with the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy in accessing geological disaster data and information through MAGMA Indonesia.
“Databases are very important for compiling catalogs. Data integration and guidelines are needed that are easily understood by the public and tourism players in particular so that tourists can travel comfortably,” he underlined.
In addition, BKMG’s Head of Sensory Image Management, Endarwin, said that BMKG will also assist in providing weather-related information in disaster-prone tourism and creative economy catalogs.
“We have also prepared a web for weather forecasts, on the web you can link to a catalog that will be made by the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy, so it will be much more complete,” he concluded. [traveltext.id]
