JAVA-BALI EMERGENCY PPKM, AIRLINES NOW CAN STARTS TO REDUCE OPERATIONS

NATIONAL airlines are advised to start reducing the frequency of their scheduled service during the Java-Bali Emergency implementation of restrictions on community activities (PPKM) without having to temporarily stop operations.

According to aviation observer from the Indonesian Aviation Network, Gerry Soedjatman, said that from a business perspective, airlines are again confused with adjustments to operating patterns and future revenue performance.

“The temporary cessation of operations that has been taken by AirAsia Indonesia is an example of potential service disruptions due to employees having difficulty getting to the office or airport for assignments,” he said.

He believes that other airlines will continue to run their scheduled services. However, of course, airlines will also be quite dizzy during this PPKM period related to the isolation and scheduling of the crew.

Gerry said airline operations would also be disrupted if there were crew members who were also positive and needed isolation. The reason is, these conditions can involve many crews and ultimately reduce or even interfere with operating capabilities.

“PPKM makes them dizzy, airlines are stuck again, what airlines should do is not stop operations temporarily, but reduce operations. But indeed, the impact [of PPKM] is again on the finances of each airline, which is already sad,” he said, Tuesday (7/6).

Previously, PT Garuda Indonesia Tbk. (GIAA) is still operating its scheduled flights amidst the Java-Bali Emergency Restrictions on Community Activities (PPKM).

According to GIAA President Director Irfan Setiaputra said that so far domestic flight routes were still operating with the main reason being to maintain connectivity. His party must ensure the availability of healthy, safe and comfortable flight service accessibility for the community, especially during this Emergency PPKM period.

“We will continue to operate during PPKM with routes and frequencies that are still being evaluated,” he said, Wednesday (7/6).

Meanwhile, PT AirAsia Indonesia Tbk. decided to temporarily suspend its scheduled flight services starting July 6, 2021 in line with the policy for the Implementation of the Java and Bali Emergency Community Activity Restrictions (PPKM).

The low-cost airline conveys to prospective passengers who wish to change their flight schedule during this period, they can change their purchase into a credit account that is valid for up to 730 days (2 years) for the next ticket purchase or can change flight schedules to another date until October 31, 2021.
