JOKOWI: MANDALIKA CIRCUIT CREATES A NEW SOURCE OF NTB’S ECONOMIC GROWTH

PRESIDENT Joko Widodo (Jokowi) hopes that the Mandalika Circuit, which was just inaugurated this Friday, can give birth to new points of economic growth in the Province of West Nusa Tenggara (NTB).

“I think this is a big event that will continue to be held every year at the Mandalika Circuit, and it will certainly have an impact on economic growth in the NTB Province,” President Jokowi said at the inauguration of the circuit located in the Mandalika Special Economic Zone (KEK), Central Lombok, NTB, as stated by the Press Bureau of the Presidential Secretariat, was received in Jakarta, Friday (11/12).

President Jokowi believes that international sports events such as World Superbike which will be held this year and MotoGP in March 2022 will have a significant impact on economic growth in the region.

“Yes, we will try World Superbike first, then MotoGP will be carried out, we will evaluate it, then we will see which direction will be seen later,” said President Jokowi.

The Mandalika Circuit is located in the SEZ managed by PT Indonesia Tourism Development Persero or the Indonesia Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC). ITDC is part of InJourney, which is a holding company for tourism SOEs.

When inaugurating the Mandalika Circuit, President Jokowi also inaugurated a bypass road connecting Lombok International Airport (BIL) with the Mandalika SEZ along 17.3 kilometers. With the presence of the bypass road, the travel time from BIL to Mandalika is only 15 minutes.

“Thanks God, we should be grateful that the construction of the 17.3-kilometer Lombok International Airport bypass road to Mandalika has been completed and is ready to be used,” said President Jokowi.

Before inaugurating the Mandalika Circuit, President Jokowi had time to try the circuit directly by riding his personal motorbike. The condition of the circuit which had been drenched in rain made the President try it more carefully, especially considering the condition of the circuit which also has many sharp turns. [antaranews]
