ABOUT TOURIST PROBLEM, HOPEFULLY NEITHER PARTY TAKES ADVANTAGE: SANDIAGA

THE MINISTER of Tourism and Creative Economy, Sandiaga Uno, in Weekly Press Briefing, Monday (1/31) hoped that no party would deliberately take advantage of the pandemic situation to profit. This was emphasized following the news that a foreign tourist from Ukraine felt cheated by the hotel after undergoing quarantine for international travelers.

“We hope that no party will take advantage. I emphasize that I will not hesitate to take action on the hotel if it is proven to have violated or cheated on quarantine guests. This decisive action can take the form of removing the hotel from the list of quarantine hotels,” said Sandiaga.

He explained, we will take firm action if this has reached the point where a policy must be taken. For example, several hotel service providers have already been warned by the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy for making mistakes.

“Not just a warning, but firm action to be removed from the list that can provide quarantine facilities,” he underlined.

He added that I also responded to the statement from the Indonesian Hotel and Restaurant Association (PHRI) which considered that the Ukrainian tourist problem was actually a communication misunderstanding. If there is a miscommunication, it can be resolved by providing better service in the future.

“We always emphasize that in this era of openness, if there is a miscommunication between service providers and travelers, one of them can be resolved by promoting the best service and controlling COVID-19,” he stressed.

Furthermore, he reiterated to all parties not to try to make a profit, considering the difficult situation experienced by industry players during the pandemic.

For this reason, he said that the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy would continue to disclose if there were problems involving service providers and tourists in the country. Mainly, regarding the official procedures related to the quarantine of international travelers.

“We will continue to communicate, advocate and connect with related parties so that there is clarity regarding this quarantine procedure,” he concluded. [kompas.com/photo special]
