EQUAL infrastructure is one of the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology (Kominfo) programs that supports the rise of the Indonesian tourism sector.
According to the Secretary General of the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology, Mira Tayyiba, in a webinar, Tuesday (6/14) said Indonesia continues to make various efforts to revive the tourism sector, Kominfo also supports this sector through strategic programs.
“Indonesia continues to make various efforts to revive the tourism sector, Kominfo also supports this sector through strategic programs,” she said.
Mira Tayyiba explained that there were still 12,548 out of 83,218 villages that had not been reached by a 4G signal. Kominfo and cellular operators project that this infrastructure development can be achieved by the end of 2022 and 2023.
In addition to infrastructure development, Kominfo has also run the Micro Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) Go Online program to support business actors in adopting digital technology where MSMEs contribute 61.97% to the national economy. A total of 26,000 MSMEs have also been assisted to sell digitally in 10 Priority Tourism Areas.
“We are also developing a digital platform for the Tourism Hub Network (JPHUB) which is aimed at finding knowledge and booking destinations from the provincial level to the village level,” she remarked.
In addition, she continued, Kominfo also provided assistance for Tourism Villages in the form of English language training for tourism village managers, the use of online shops at 16 Village-Owned Enterprises, as well as MSME training through the Digital Entrepreneurship Academy. We hope that the Indonesian tourism sector can recover as usual and even continue to grow.
“Based on data from the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy, in 2020 only 25% of the number of foreign tourists entering Indonesia compared to the previous year. In addition, 409,000 workers in the tourism sector have lost their jobs and state income has decreased by IDR20.7 billion,” she added.
Digital transformation that can help revitalize tourism must be inclusive, empowering and sustainable. Sustainable digital transformation is based on and aims to fulfill the 2030 Agenda for the Sustainable Development Goals, where all levels of society are expected to have digital access and a secure digital space and people can use digital technology productively and create added value from its use.
