THE MINISTRY of Tourism and Creative Economy revealed that the development of the tourism sector showed a significant increase curve, one of which was shown by the increase in the number of foreign tourist visits. This positive growth is expected to further increase economic activity and create job opportunities in the tourism sector and the country’s creative economy.
According to the Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, Sandiaga Uno during The Weekly Briefing at the Sapta Pesona Building, Jakarta, Monday (8/22), said that in June 2022 the number of foreign tourists visiting Indonesia through the main entrance reached approximately 350 thousand visits or an increase of sharp almost 2,000% (1,973.96% of Central Data Body (BPS) data) compared to June 2021.
“Compared to the previous month, namely May 2022, the growth increased by 62.69%. Accumulatively, the number of foreign tourists visiting Indonesia in January-June 2022 has reached almost 750,000, an increase of almost 1,000% compared to the same period in 2021,” said Sandiaga.
He explained this increase was also accompanied by an increase in the room occupancy rate or hotel occupancy in June 2022, which Sandiaga revealed had reached more than 50% or an increase of 11.7% compared to June 2021.
“The increase in the number of tourists was accompanied by an increase in new tourism trends after the pandemic. Where tourists put forward the concept of personalize, customize, localize, and smaller in size, as well as the application of health protocols in every destination and creative economy center. The tourism industry has also met the Cleanliness, Health, Safety and Environmental Sustainability (CHSE) standards,” he remarked.
Sandiaga added that with the increase in the quality and number of realized foreign tourists visiting in 2021 by 1.65 million visits and (projected) 2022 by 1.8 to 3.6 million visits. So in 2023, the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy targets tourist visits of 3.5 to 7 million visits.
Not only the increase in the number of tourists, exports of the creative and digital economy have also increased. The export value of the creative economy tends to be stable during 2017-2020, but will increase in 2021.
The value of creative economy exports at the end of 2020 reached US$18.78 billion and increased in 2021 to US$23.9 billion or 10% of the total national export value. The largest contribution of creative economy exports came from fashion commodities at 61.6%, 31.3% from handicrafts and 6.9% from culinary commodities.
The economic and creative export trend that accelerated in 2021 will continue until 2022. It is projected that creative economy exports will reach US$25.14 billion in 2022. The main focus in increasing creative and creative exports is in three commodities, namely fashion, crafts, and culinary.
“However, it does not rule out the possibility of fostering other commodities in accordance with market trends and demands, such as the film, music, applications and games sub-sectors that are on the rise,” he stated.
In addition, Minister Sandiaga revealed, Kemenparekraf also targets an increase in the number of digital startups. Namely 200 startups in 2022 and increased to 300 startups in 2023. [traveltext.id]
