POSITIVE SIGNS, INDONESIAN TOURISM PREDICTED TO FULLY RECOVER IN 2025

THE COVID-19 pandemic, which has been going on since 2020, has hit many industries, including the tourism sector. This can be seen by the decline in various world tourist destinations which are empty of tourists, including Indonesia.

Now, after nearly three years of the pandemic hitting the world, various countries are starting to reorganize their tourism to attract tourists, one of which is Indonesia. Even though tourism is not yet completely normal, positive signs are increasingly visible from time to time.

Just look at how Bali, which has not yet fully recovered, is starting to fill with tourists, both foreign and domestic tourists.

According to the Deputy for Economic Affairs, Ministry of National Development Planning/Bappenas, Amalia Adininggar Widyasanti at the National Coordination Meeting of the Ministry of Tourism with the theme “Inclusive and Sustainable Transformation of Tourism and Creative Economy” in Jakarta, Thursday (12/15) said that Indonesian tourism had not fully recovered. The recovery of tourism and the creative economy in 2023 based on WTO data states that it seems that it has only reached 60% of pre-pandemic conditions.

“Nevertheless, Indonesia’s tourism is predicted to return to normal as before the pandemic in 2025. This can be realized with the efforts made by the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy and other related parties,” she said.

Tourism, she continued, is predicted to return to normal before the pandemic in 2025. This means that for us to reach the level before the COVID-19 pandemic, we still need considerable effort to continue to recover from parekraf conditions in Indonesia, especially tourism.

One of the efforts to restore Indonesian tourism that is being carried out by the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy is to encourage domestic tourists to only travel in Indonesia. In fact, the tourism ministry targets the movement of domestic tourists to reach 1.2 to 1.4 billion throughout 2023.

“In line with the president’s directives to realize the 2023 target of 1.2 to 1.4 billion movements or trips of domestic tourists,” Amalia Adininggar Widyasanti concluded. [sources/photo special]
