‘BEYOND GLOBALIZATION’ PROVIDES OPPORTUNITIES TO BECOME DEVELOPED COUNTRY

MINISTER of State-Owned Enterprises, Erick Thohir revealed the “beyond globalization” strategy that provides opportunities for developing countries to become developed countries like Indonesia,

“There is globalization, we talk about ‘beyond globalization’. What does it mean? Globalization that provides opportunities for developing countries to become developed like Indonesia, giving developing countries the opportunity to advance like Indonesia is a right, the right of all nations. What does it mean? If we talk about globalization, we must also have the Indonesian version of globalization,” Erick said at the 2023 “Economic Outlook” event in Jakarta, Tuesday (02/28).

He assessed that currently Indonesia is one of the centers of economic growth. This is inseparable from Indonesia’s desire to become a developed country.

“All the world recognizes that China was in the 80s as the center of economic growth, today Indonesia is one of them. I said one of them, what does it mean? as one of the centers of world economic growth,” he stated.

We want to be a developed country, he continued that we have the right to be part of the ecosystem that the world wants to build, the supply chain that the world is building because we have ‘challenging’ as a nation as well as ‘job creation’ opening up jobs, our demographics are very easy.

“However, on that occasion, he also reminded Indonesia to remain careful with globalization which will affect economic growth. For me, we still have to be careful about the ‘policy’ of globalization, globalization will determine whether our growth remains like today or we falter,” he said.

The reason, he said, is that globalization can be seen from two perspectives, there are those who agree and those who do not. Globalization is often debated, especially since Indonesia has the potential for natural resources (SDA) and markets.

“What does it mean? When we talk about globalization, there are two perspectives, ‘yes’ and ‘no’, is it wrong or not. True (globalization) is a ‘policy’ this is a digitalization. “No, it is not wrong that Indonesia’s basis is natural resources and the ‘market’, but why don’t we shift this debate to a direction that does not need to argue but becomes a solution. Why don’t we talk about ‘beyond globalization’, Erick concluded. [antaranews]
