FILM IS ONE OF THE CREATIVE ECONOMY SUBSECTORS WHICH GROW POSITIVELY IN 2023

INDONESIAN film is one of the sub-sectors in the creative economy that has experienced positive growth in 2023 so it is hoped that it can have a big impact on economic revival and job opportunities, including attracting more investors to invest their capital in Indonesia.

According to the Deputy for Strategic Policy at the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy, Dessy Ruhati, in ‘The Weekly Brief with Sandi Uno’, Monday (02/05), 2024, said that the macro conditions in the tourism and creative economy sectors in 2023 with the level of foreign tourist visits reaching 11.7 million or an increase of 98.30% compared to 2022.

“The composition of foreign investment has also increased, in 2022 it was 30.39% and in 2023 it has 36.7%. Of all the tourism and creative economy subsectors, film is the one that has the most positive growth. Throughout 2023 the total number Indonesian cinema audiences reached 55 million,” said Dessy.

She explained that it was also a record that there were 20 Indonesian film titles that each reached 1 million viewers. This means that the attractiveness of this film subsector is very high and of course we hope that the workforce, both in the animation and video (sectors) will continue to grow.

Meanwhile, PT Samuel Sekuritas Indonesia’s Economic Adviser & Senior Economist, Fithra Faisal, said that sectorally the finance industry is still the most popular in the investment space. However, the performance of leisure-based sectors cannot be simply dismissed, including the performance of MD Pictures (IDX: FILM) shares.

“There are several events that might make (FILM’s) (trend) go down, but if we pull the trend line it continues to go up. The significant development of the middle class was one of the drivers of increasing performance in the film sector,” said Fithra.

As an industry that is growing positively, FILM also has large investment opportunities. Not only in terms of the number of viewers, films also have high Intellectual Property (IP), where one film’s value is estimated to reach IDR15 trillion.

“These continuously rotating values are one thing that I think is very promising for the future. Talking about the overall IP of the film subsector, we are talking about a potential of IDR 130 trillion and also about the creation of 400 thousand to 500 thousand workers. So, if we talk about the future of the industry “Indonesian creativity is creative content or content creation,” Fithra remarked.

Likewise, the Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, Sandiaga Uno, then encouraged more issuers from Indonesian creative economy actors, especially in the film sector, to become issuers on the stock exchange floor.

“We have to encourage more of our issuers in the capital market to further color our investment prospects,” concluded Sandiaga. [traveltext.id]
