YOUNG GENERATION DRIVES INDONESIA’s CREATIVE ECONOMY GROWTH

CREATIVE economic activities led by young people have the potential to position Indonesia as a global innovation hub, according to Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, Airlangga Hartarto.

In a statement on Friday, he noted that the government recognizes Indonesia’s younger generation as a valuable asset for the growth of the creative economy.

“The future of Indonesia’s creative industry is promising. Economic stability, a young and creative population, and a rich cultural heritage provide a strong foundation for growth. The government aims for the creative economy’s added value to reach Rp1,347 trillion (around US$88.89 billion) by 2024,” Hartarto said.

Key sub-sectors driving this growth include culinary, fashion, and handicrafts, which significantly contribute to the national gross domestic product (GDP) and create over 20 million jobs. This growth is expected to enhance Indonesia’s position in global exports.

Hartarto highlighted that the global shift toward digitalization and innovation has opened new opportunities for Indonesia’s creative sector, particularly in film, music, animation, gaming, fashion, and digital arts.

The rise of technologies such as artificial intelligence, virtual reality, and blockchain is transforming how creative content is produced, distributed, and consumed.

“Indonesia must capitalize on this moment by leveraging technological advancements and integrating them into the creative industry,” he said.

Indonesia’s vast cultural diversity is another strength that can elevate its creative industry to the global stage, Hartarto added.

By combining its unique cultural assets with modern technology, Indonesia has the potential to develop world-class creative products and services that are widely accepted globally.

He emphasized that optimizing the creative industry’s potential requires strong collaboration among the government, private sector, and educational institutions.

This collaboration plays a crucial role in building a creative ecosystem that not only contributes to Indonesia’s economic growth but also promotes Indonesian culture and creativity worldwide.

“By connecting industry players with investors, policymakers, and decision-makers, we can accelerate the growth of the creative economy and position Indonesia as a global innovation hub,” Hartarto remarked. [antaranews]
