ARTOTEL THAMRIN JAKARTA PRESENTS PHOTOGRAPHY EXHIBITION ‘BEHIND THE SEEN’

ARTOTEL Thamrin Jakarta presents the photography exhibition ‘Behind the Seen’ featuring the works of three visual artists: Erwin Darmali, Erly Bahsan and Ivan Saputra Alam. The exhibition will run from September 26 to December 2024 at ARTSPACE, M Level, ARTOTEL Thamrin Jakarta with an evocative visual exploration through the unique perspectives of the photographers’ lenses.

According to Windi Salomo, Art Director of Artotel Group, these three artists have succeeded in inviting us to see the world from a different perspective, evoking emotion and imagination through their works full of depth. The exhibition “Behind the Seen” is not just a visual experience, but a journey to understand the story hidden behind each moment.

“Entering the realm of imagination through a lens is always a unique experience. Through the photographic works of these artists, visitors are invited to see another side of the world that holds stories and souls behind everyday life and feel the imagination of the artists presented in beautiful compositions. The three participating artists present different characteristics and personal touches,” she said.

Windi Salomo explained that Erwin’s photography captures the essence of the subject and environment, creating a deep emotional connection. Through the exploration of light and shadow, he reveals hidden stories in his street photography.

“Erly Bahsan, who began his photographic journey in the early 2000s, focuses on street and documentary photography. He captures everyday life without filters, with unique compositions that still exude his artistic touch,” she affirmed.

Meanwhile, she continued that Ivan, an independent filmmaker from Jakarta, is known for his striking colors and strong storytelling. His works, ranging from commercials to artistic short films, combine visual creativity with commercial appeal.

Likewise, Dicky Panjaitan, General Manager of ARTOTEL Thamrin Jakarta added, “The ‘Behind the Seen’ exhibition shows another side of life that we often overlook. We at ARTOTEL Thamrin Jakarta are very excited to be a venue for these inspiring works, giving visitors the opportunity to experience the beauty hidden behind every moment.

But for Erwin Darmali, a photographer based in Jakarta, Indonesia and Pasadena, when he asked about his personal projects, he immediately replied that “at first, I felt that I had achieved my goals with my own photography. Then, after reviewing it, I felt that there was still something missing and that I needed additional elements.”

“Well, the print products I chose were 3 canvas prints of images that I felt could convey a sense of closeness and connection. Here you can see the difference in the photography I usually do,” he added.

Erwin concluded that I prefer projects that challenge me, such as choosing three canvas prints of images that I feel can convey a sense of intimacy and connection. [traveltext.id]
