INDONESIA LAUNCHES SEVERAL APPS TO PRESERVE BATIK CRAFT INDUSTRY

INDONESIA’S Ministry of Industry has launched several applications such as Batik and Craft Ecosystem, Syndi-Synthetic Dyes Idexation, and Digital Batik Motif to help preserve and strengthen the domestic batik craft industry.

According to the head of the ministry’s Standardization and Industrial Services Agency, Andi Rizaldi, the applications were created to preserve the nation’s identity, as batik cloth has become a part of Indonesia’s history and has contributed to the country’s economic progress.

“Batik has become an industrial sub-sector that is increasingly reckoned with in the international arena, with national batik exports reaching US$17.5 million in 2023,” he said. In addition to conservation efforts through the launch of the APP, the government has emphasized the importance of collaboration with relevant stakeholders,” he said here on Monday (10/28) 2024.

Meanwhile, the Ministry’s Director General for Small and Medium Enterprises, Reni Yanita, said collaboration in batik preservation can be carried out by involving raw material suppliers, distributors, the government, academics, designers, small and medium industry centers and other batik industries.

“Collaboration among business players by jointly maximizing their strengths will have an impact on achieving more efficient and effective business goals,” she explained.

According to the Ministry of Industry, the domestic batik industry employed 200,000 workers as of August 2024. They were spread across 201 industrial centers and 5,946 small and medium industries in 11 provinces. [antaranews/photo special]
