INDONESIA is seeking to attract more Indian tourists by participating in the Outbound Travel Mart (OTM) tourism trade exhibition, recently held at the Jio World Convention Center in Mumbai, India.

“This year, we are targeting potential transactions of IDR 48 billion, with a projection of around 40,000 Indian tourists,” said Ni Made Ayu Marthini, Deputy for Marketing at the Ministry of Tourism, as quoted in a ministry press release.

At the OTM 2026 exhibition, the Indonesian Ministry of Tourism presented 30 tourism industry players, consisting of 20 destination management companies, five travel agents, two hotel managers, two restaurant managers, and one tourist attraction manager.

Ahead of the OTM, the Indonesian Ministry of Tourism conducted a sales mission in Chennai, India, on February 3, 2026. Chennai is known for its middle- to upper-class professional community, high literacy rates, and a population active in international travel, spiritual tourism, wellness tourism, and Meetings, Incentives, Conventions, and Exhibitions (MICE).

“With a population of over 11 million people in the metropolitan area and growing purchasing power, Chennai is a strategic market for the Indonesian tourism industry,” said Made.

According to government data, the number of Indian tourist visits to Indonesia in 2025 is projected to reach 734,490, a 3.42% increase from 710,688 visits in 2024.

Meanwhile Dedi Ahmad Kurnia, Assistant Deputy for International Tourism Marketing I at the Ministry of Tourism, stated that India is a potential tourism market for Indonesia.

“With a population of around 1.47 billion, India is a highly potential international tourist market. The Ministry of Tourism’s presence at OTM 2026 is expected to strengthen the branding and image of Wonderful Indonesia as a top destination for Indian tourists,” he said.

The Indonesian Ministry of Tourism participated in OTM 2024, which generated potential transactions of around IDR40.7 billion. In 2025, the Ministry participated in the SATTE and ITB India exhibitions to attract more Indian tourists to Indonesia.

At the OTM 2026 inauguration ceremony, the Indonesian Pavilion was one of the exhibition areas visited by key guests during a VIP walk-around. Furthermore, the Indonesian Ministry of Tourism received an award from OA Globe DMC in the Tourism Excellence Awards – Celebrating Leaders Who Shape Destinations.

The award recognizes tourism agencies that play a significant role in strengthening destination awareness, supporting the Indian travel industry, and driving consistent growth in the Indian market. [traveltext.id]
