THE INDONESIAN Ministry of Tourism is exploring opportunities to enhance cooperation with the South Korean government to advance the tourism sector.

Indonesian Tourism Minister Widiyanti Putri Wardhana held a bilateral meeting with the Minister of Culture, Sports, and Tourism of the Republic of Korea, Chae Hwi Young, on the sidelines of the 13th APEC Tourism Ministerial Meeting (TMM13) in Macau SAR, China, on June 27, 2026.

According to a ministry press release confirmed on Monday, areas of cooperation discussed at the meeting included strengthening joint promotions between the Korea Tourism Organization (KTO) and travel agents, as well as the development of special interest gastronomic tourism.

“With a shared vision within the APEC and UN Tourism framework, Indonesia and the Republic of Korea have a significant opportunity to advance tourism cooperation to a higher level and provide tangible benefits for both countries,” said Widiyanti.

She hopes her meeting with the Minister of Culture, Sports, and Tourism of the Republic of Korea, Chae Hwi Young, will open up opportunities for increased cooperation between the two countries in tourism development and other strategic sectors.

Widiyanti also stated that the Republic of Korea is a key source of international tourists for Indonesia.

She welcomed the Republic of Korea government’s policy of temporarily waiving visa requirements for Indonesian tourist groups visiting the country starting May 28, 2026.

At the 13th APEC Tourism Ministerial Meeting, Indonesia expressed its commitment to supporting tourism growth in the Asia-Pacific through digital innovation, community and MSME empowerment, and cross-border collaboration.

Furthermore, Indonesia supports the implementation of the APEC Tourism Strategic Plan 2025–2029, Putrajaya Vision 2040, and the results of the APEC study on increasing the effectiveness of travel facilitation measures in the Asia-Pacific region. [traveltext.id]
