YOGYAKARTA International Airport (YIA), which was inaugurated by President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) on Friday (28/8), has been completed 100%.

According to President Jokowi, the airport, which is located in Kulon Progo Regency, has several advantages compared to Adisucipto International Airport. One of them, the length of the run way at YIA reached 3,250 meters or much longer than the old airport run way which only reached 2,200 meters.

“However, as a result, YIA is able to accommodate aircraft type airbus A380 and Boeing 777. And I hope Yogyakarta International Airport can operate successfully and provide benefits to Indonesia, especially the economic development of the people of Yogyakarta and its surroundings,” he said.

We know that this is still in a pandemic condition [COVID-19] so if it’s not crowded yet, I understand. However, as soon as vaccination starts I am sure this airport will be the busiest.

Jokowi also praised all parties involved in the construction of the airport, because it was successfully carried out in a fast time of around 20 months. Without a doubt, Jokowi also said that the airport operation was the best among all airports in Indonesia today.

“I think this is the best right now in Indonesia. I don’t know that there will be a new airport that will be better [construction]. For your information, the construction of Yogyakarta International Airport (YIA) in Kulon Progo costs IDR10.5 trillion, IDR6.1 trillion is used. for physical development and IDR4.4 trillion for land acquisition, “

With a terminal area of 210,000 square meters and a total airport area of 587 hectares, making YIA one of the largest airports in Indonesia with a current capacity of 14 million passengers per year and the ultimate capacity of up to 24 million people per year. [antaranews/photo special]
