MAY 2021, AP I RECORDS TRAFFIC OF 2.2 MILLION PASSENGER MOVEMENTS

PT ANGKASA Pura I (AP I) recorded passenger traffic of 2,290,250 passenger movements at 15 airports managed in May 2021, down 13.1% compared to passenger traffic in April which amounted to 2,636,175 passenger movements.

Meanwhile, aircraft traffic last May amounted to 23,837 aircraft movements, down 21.3% compared to April traffic which reached 30,317 aircraft movements. Cargo traffic in May amounted to 29,051,471 kg, down 18.2% compared to traffic in April which reached 35,546,093 kg.

According to Vice President Corporate Secretary of PT AP I, Handy Heryudhitiawan, the government’s policy of eliminating going home from the beginning to mid-May resulted in a decrease in flight traffic. This shows the success of the Government in limiting people’s mobility via airplanes to suppress the potential spread of COVID-19. We urge people who travel by air to always be disciplined in implementing health protocols.

“The highest passenger traffic in May was at Sultan Hasasuddin Airport in Makassar, which amounted to 525,507 passenger movements, while the second highest passenger traffic was at Juanda Airport, Surabaya with traffic of 508,305 passenger movements and the third highest traffic was at I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport, Bali with traffic of 270,504 passenger movements,” he said.

He explained that after going home, there was a trend of increasing passenger traffic where from May 18 to 31 the daily passenger traffic was always above 105,000 passenger movements. This number is above the average daily passenger traffic in 2021 (January 1-5 May) which is 74,589 passenger movements.

We hope that tourism destinations, he continued can start to open gradually after the 2021 Idul Fitri holiday, of course with the implementation of strict health protocols, so that it can encourage increased traffic at Angkasa Pura I airports.

“This is in line with the Government’s efforts to equip business actors in the tourism sector regarding the implementation of health protocols through cleanliness, health, safety, and environment sustainability (CHSE) certifications,” Handy Heryudhitiawan concluded. [bisnis.com/photo special]
