SATELLITE ROW EVENTS FROM UBUD WRITERS & READERS FESTIVAL 2021

THE UBUD Writers & Readers Festival 2021 (UWRF21) initiated by the Mudra Swari Saraswati Foundation – a non-profit foundation in Ubud, Bali, has been completed. On October 8-17, UWRF21 presented more than 130 speakers and more than 90 hybrid programs ranging from in-depth discussions, film screenings, book launches, workshops, club festivals, special banquets, as well as music and art performances.

Even though the main event has been held, UWRF21 still has an agenda to organize Satellite Events which this time is packaged digitally. Featuring three Festival speakers, this year’s UWRF Satellite Events is fully supported by the United States Embassy. The series of events itself will take place on October 19-22.

Satellite Events UWRF21 started with the Stories Within Stories session with Ruth Ozeki which was held on Tuesday, (10/19) at 20:00-21:00 WITA. The author of The Book of Form and Emptiness, Ruth Ozeki, will cover how to navigate the various elements to create a compelling cohesive story. In collaboration with the Banggai Literary Festival, this session with Ruth Ozeki will be moderated by the Young King of the Nation who is part of the literary community from Central Sulawesi.

Furthermore, UWRF21 will also hold a Satellite Event session featuring Ada Limón, author of The Carrying, who won the National Book Critics Circle Award for the poetry category. The session titled The Art of Poetry with Ada Limón is in collaboration with communities from the Flores Writers Festival and Ruteng Nusa Tenggara, and is scheduled for Thursday (10/21) at 20:00-21:00 WITA. In the session, Ada Limón will answer questions about the essence of poetry and how to balance words, images, stories, tempo, and rhythm in order to create a deep exploration of feelings.

Satellite Events UWRF21 will be closed on Friday, (10/22) at 19:00-20:00 WITA with a Writing Political History with Vincent Bevins session. Award-winning journalist and correspondent covering Southeast Asia for The Washington Post, Vincent Bevins, will discuss literary journalism and how it creates gripping and powerful stories, from world history to archives and interviews, about a significant and disturbing period in Indonesia’s recent history.this new. In a session that will be moderated by a member of the Baca.Rasa community. Listen to this, the participants have the opportunity to learn to rewrite the dark corners of history in an interesting and meaningful way.

Satellite Events UWRF is a manifestation of the commitment of the Mudra Swari Saraswati Foundation to provide a platform for lovers of literature, art, and culture throughout the country. This year, all UWRF Satellite Events sessions will also be attended by participants from Soegijapranata Catholic University and Lambung Mangkurat University.
