THE INDONESIAN Government plans to cut the quarantine period for foreign tourists who want to travel to Bali and the Riau Islands. The quarantine period will be cut to three days from the initial determination to five days.
According to the Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, Sandiaga Uno in the Weekly Press Briefing, Monday (11/1) said the plan follows recommendations given by a number of epidemiologists regarding the possibility of shortening the quarantine duration of foreign tourists.
“This step was taken to accommodate a number of requests from partner countries who are still delaying departures to Bali and the Riau Islands when the two priority tourist destinations are opened on October 14, 2021. France has asked for an easing or release of quarantine but, at this time we cannot do that,” he said.
He explained, for foreign travelers who have been fully vaccinated, there will be a decision to reduce the number of quarantine days to three days. The move has already received consideration from epidemiologists. Thus, travelers who have been fully vaccinated will be allowed to pass a maximum quarantine period of 3 days.
“This will be discussed, considered to be announced soon by the Minister of Health and the Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture,” Minister Sandiaga stated.
He added that in addition to reducing the quarantine period, he added, his ministry was proposing to add a number of countries that could visit Bali and the Riau Islands. For example, Austria, Australia, Denmark, England, Switzerland, Russia and the Netherlands.
“There are 19 countries that have received flight permits to the two priority destinations and have not sent their citizens since mid-October 2021. There are several things that we have to take a closer look at on routine flights, such as United Arab Emirates and New Zealand, which still have a policy of returning home. tight, this is our hope,” Sandiaga concluded.
