TOURISM VILLAGE RESIDENTS’ COMPETITIVENES MUST BE ENCHANCED

THE competitiveness of tourism village residents in six priority tourism destinations needs to be enhanced. Each priority tourism destination has its own charm; hence, residents’ competitiveness needs to be enhanced to attract more tourists’ visits.

Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Sandiaga Uno revently stated that the six priority tourism destinations are Lake Toba in North Sumatra, Borobudur-Yogyakarta-Prambanan, Labuan Bajo in East Nusa Tenggara, Bromo-Tengger-Semeru in East Java, and Wakatobi in Southeast Sulawesi, the minister expounded.

He explained that the ministry would continue improving human resources capacity and quality through integrated and sustainable tourism development programmes, including training on tourism products innovation development and tourism and creative industry capacity.

Meanwhile, the ministry’s acting Deputy for Resources and Institutional Department, Frans Teguh, urged residents of tourism villages to become tourism actors who could take adaptive measures to maintain relevance with the current development.

“Tourism players need to adjust themselves and answer specific requests and demands from tourists,” Teguh said.

Likewise, the ministry’s Human Resources Development Director, Florida Pardosi, said that the ministry would provide three study sessions, divided into A, B, and C packages for select tourism players.

Pardosi expounded that of the three study sessions, package A will include studies on sustainable tourism and tourism products’ exploration, packaging, and presentation; package B will include studies on tourism packages, homestays, culinary, and souvenirs, and package C will include entrepreneurship studies, which consist of business planning, financial digitisation, marketing, and human resources.

Moreover, Magelang District’s Tourism, Youth, and Sports Office Head Slamet Achmad Husein said that the training provided by the ministry is a good opportunity for tourism actors to enhance their knowledge of the tourism sector. “Of the theory and practice sessions delivered by lecturers, you must observe, emulate, and modify (their techniques),” Husein remarked.
