AIR INDIA has agreed to purchase 250 jet aircraft from Airbus as part of the company’s revitalization and services. The order consists of 210 narrow-body jets and 40 wide-body aircraft. This was revealed by Tata Group Chairman N Chandrasekaran, who is now the new owner of the airline on Tuesday (02/14), 2023 quoted from Zawya.
The deal is part of Air India’s massive 470 aircraft order. It is estimated that Air India also ordered 220 aircraft from Airbus’ rival Boeing. Air India seeks to expand and improve services under Tata’s governance.
“We are undergoing a massive transformation as we are committed to building a world-class airline. One of the key things required is modern and efficient aircraft to fly all routes,” said Chandrasekaran.
It was a turning point for Air India to create a world-class reputation and get out of the image of poor service and old aircraft. Air India is expected to surpass American Airlines’ record order book of 460 aircraft set more than a decade ago.
As of December 2022, Reuters reported Air India was in negotiations to secure an order agreement for up to 500 aircraft. Even if it gets a big discount, Air India is expected to still have to spend deep with estimates reaching tens of billions of US dollars. [sources/photo special]
