EAST BELITUNG CREATIVE FASHION INDUSTRY AT THE TIMOR DE BELITONG EVENT

EAST Belitung has many stories, apart from works of art and culture, it turns out that the creative industry in the land of the rainbow army continues to grow.

In the ‘Timor de Belitong’ event on 1-4 June 2023, East Belitung Regency showcased its creative industry under the Creative Fashion Show title. More than just making use of waste materials, fashion designers also develop storytelling behind the looks exhibited by Generation Z.

According to Novi Taylor, the fashion designer who showcased the look of ‘The Queen of Chinas’. This look is inspired by a mix of Chinese and Belitung cultures in the past. In the past, in 1293 the Mongol fleet was stranded on an island called Gou-lan/Kau-lan (Belitung), so that their descendants were residents who until now were the original citizens of Belitung Island.

This look for ‘The Queen of Chinas’ uses burlap sacks and lais mats in the shape of a fan so that the oriental impression really stands out. Combined with a small winnowing as a sweetener on the front of the clothes made of bamboo hood and traditional hat caps which are decorated with original jute rope and dry leaves so that the combination of Chinese and natives blends like the natives and Chinese who have united on the island of Belitung.

Accessories use earrings made from original lais mats, and chest decorations use mats and dried pine cones. And the properties are made of wood branches and tampah (bamboo hood), so that there are 7 materials used in the process of making this creative costume, namely burlap, lais mats, winnowing, hat, dried leaves, dried pine cones and dry twigs.

Meanwhile, Khalila Faiha Ramadhani, a model who wore the look of ‘The Queen of China’, said she was proud to be able to present fashion from Novi Taylor. Participating in the Creative Fashion Show this time is an effort to promote the creative industry from our district’s fashion sub-sector which continues to grow.

For Khalila, this is the 12th fashion show, four times with the East Belitung Culture and Tourism Office, eight times on the public catwalk. “In addition to honing modeling skills at major events, we are also required to be more creative and compete in a healthy manner,” she said.

No less creative and looking exclusive is the ‘Billitonite Costum’ look presented by fashion designer Robiyanto. This creative costume was inspired by the beauty of the satam stone which is a typical stone from Belitung which was first discovered in Buding in 1973.

This creative dress that looks elegant is designed using gunny sacks and AA plastic rice sacks, then the black-painted trouser and top suit takes the philosophy of satam stone color. Likewise with the head cover using terindak which is painted black decorated with beads and small satam stones made from styrofoam

Accessories use a chest decoration made of burlap sack which is decorated with dried spruce flowers and dried mangrove leaves, on the waist using a styrofoam ornament which is shaped into satam stones, and the property in the hand holds an artificial satam stone.

So that there are 6 materials used, namely burlap, rice sacks, terindak, Styrofoam dried spruce and dried mangrove flowers so that Billitonite Costum can be described beautifully at this creative fashion show. [traveltext.id/photo special]
