NYEPI AND EID al-FITR AS MOMENTUM TO MAINTAIN DIVERSITY: VICE PRESIDENT

VICE President Gibran Rakabuming emphasized the importance of maintaining diversity as the nation’s strength in commemorating Nyepi (Silence Day) and Eid al-Fitr, which fall close together this year.

The vice president expressed this during his speech at the 2025 Tawur Agung Kesanga at Prambanan Temple, Yogyakarta, on Friday (03/28), 2025.

“I continue to remind the community that diversity is our strength. Differences mature us, differences unite us, and we must maintain harmony and unity together,” he stated.

According to Gibran, Indonesia is not only abundant in natural resources but also enriched with diversity in ethnicity, language, religion, customs, and culture.

“We must be grateful that, besides our natural wealth, the country is blessed with extraordinary diversity such as ethnicity, language, religion, customs, culture and more,” he stated.

He then highlighted the unique momentum this year when Nyepi Day and Eid al-Fitr are celebrated close to each other on the calendar.

In response, the vice president invited the community to strengthen the values of tolerance and respect for differences.

“This year, Nyepi and Eid al-Fitr fall on close dates. We need to continue to strengthen tolerance and respect for differences,” he reminded.

The 2025 Eid holiday is regulated in the Joint Decree of the Three Ministers, namely the Minister of Religious Affairs, the Minister of Manpower, and the Minister of Empowerment of State Apparatus and Bureaucratic Reform concerning National Holidays and Joint Leave in 2025.

Ahead of Eid al-Fitr on March 31, 2025, the government officiates a national holiday and joint leave for Nyepi Day for the 1947 Saka New Year. Nyepi Day falls on March 29, 2025, and is followed by joint leave for Nyepi a day earlier, March 28, 2025.
