24 VILLAGES IN ALOR, NTT ARE PROPOSED TO BECOME NATURAL AQUATIC TOURISM

THE Provincial Government (Pemprov) of East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) has proposed to the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries as many as 24 villages located in the Regional Water Conservation Area (KKPD) of Alor Regency to be designated as a marine tourism village.

According to the Head of the NTT Marine and Fisheries Service  for the Alor Regency, Muhammad Saleh Goro, in Kupang said that with this proposal we hope that 24 villages are designated as marine tourism villages which are expected to have an impact on increasing economic added value from the use of environmental services for marine and fisheries resources.

He explained that the 24 villages are within the KKPD which have the prospect of developing as one of the leading tourist destinations, especially marine tourism.

Saleh Goro mentioned various tourism potentials in the area such as the Pantar Strait marine park with 34 diving points, species-based tourism in the form of tame dugongs, dolphins, rat sharks, whales. In addition, there are clusters of small, exotic islands and various marine and fishery potentials in them.

He said that in order to increase the utility of marine and fisheries potential in Alor, his party has made a big plan for the development of marine and fisheries natural tourism destinations that are connected to inland tourism areas based on villages, customs and religions.

Development is focused on the KKPD area because nearly 80 percent of the coastline of Alor Regency is included in this area. Thus, he said, when it is developed it can attract other economic activities to be involved in it.

Saleh Goro added that the development of the Pantar Strait KKPD and the surrounding sea in Alor Regency also involved local village communities. This involvement is important because there are several locations in this area that are still very prone to fish bombing practices. [antaranews/photo traveltext.id]
