INDONESIA’S government has again extended the implementation of restrictions on micro-scale community activities. The seventh phase of Restrictions on Community Activities (PPKM Mikro) which takes effect from 4-17 May 2021.
According to the Coordinating Minister for the Economy Airlangga Hartarto in a press statement, Monday (3/5) said that the decision to extend the PPKM was made based on the results of coordination with a number of related ministries and agencies. This was also carried out in accordance with President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) ‘s direction for efforts to control COVID-19.
“The micro PPKM will apply the seventh extension, starting from May 4 to May 17, 2021. At this micro PPKM there is no change in the rules from the previous period. However, the government affirms that in entertainment places that are public facilities, then the implementation of health protocols. , especially the use of masks is mandatory,” he said.
He explained that it was the emphasis and also the limitation on [capacity] of 50% in that place. In addition, that the government increases the number of provinces that implement PPKM Micro. There are five additional provinces, namely Riau Islands, Bengkulu, Central Sulawesi, Southeast Sulawesi and West Papua.
Airlangga who is also the Chairperson of the Committee for Handling COVID-19 and National Economic Recovery (KPCPEN) said that thus, a total of 30 provinces have implemented Micro PPKM until 17 May. He revealed that the COVID-19 cases in the country had improved during the sixth stage of the PPKM Mikro implementation which took effect from April 20 to May 3, 2021.
“Regarding the development of COVID until May 2, there has been improvement compared to global cases, the cases have improved, both from daily confirmation, we in April were around 5,222 per day compared to January which was 10,000 cases,” he stated.
Furthermore, he added that active cases averaged around 107,000 or improved if compared to January at around 139,963. In addition, the positivity rate also improved from 26% in January to 10.81% in May. This is also the case with active cases which continue to experience improvement. The highest active case in February was 16%, while the current active case is around 6%.
“The national bed occupancy rate (BOR) is currently around 35% and there are no areas with a BOR above 70%. Even so, he emphasized that during the implementation of PPKM Mikro, what needed to be a concern in the last ten days were active cases which were stagnant at 100,000. This [active case] needs to be pursued so that it will go down,” Airlangga concluded
As is known, in the fifth stage of PPKM Micro, there are 25 provinces implementing the policy, namely West Sumatra, Jambi, Bangka Belitung Islands, Lampung and West Kalimantan, North Kalimantan, Aceh, South Sumatra, Riau, Papua.
