STARTING JULY 11, UAE SUSPENDS ENTRY OF INDONESIAN TOURISTS

THE UNITED Arab Emirates (UAE) will suspend entry of travelers from Indonesia from 11 July 2021 when infections spike sharply, driven by the Delta variant. The ban will exclude some tourists, including UAE nationals and essential workers, who will undergo a 10-day quarantine and PCR test.

According to Bloomberg, said travel from Afghanistan will also be suspended, the country’s National Emergency Crisis and Disaster Management Authority said. The move comes as Indonesia, Southeast Asia’s largest economy, is battling one of the worst outbreaks in the region. The government has imposed stricter restrictions, including full work from home orders for non-essential sectors.

Hospitals in many provinces are running out of beds and oxygen. A total of 38,124 people were confirmed to have contracted the Corona Virus in the 24 hours to Friday (7/9) with 871 deaths from the disease. It was the first day in six days that Indonesia had not recorded a record infection.

Apart from the UAE, Hong Kong also recently announced a ban on the entry of tourists from Indonesia due to the spike in infections. Hong Kong has determined Indonesia to be in the A1 category or a country with very high risk so that all flights from Indonesia are prohibited from entering Hong Kong.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Indonesia is not the only one on the list. There are also the Philippines, India, Nepal and Pakistan. [bisnis.com/photo special]
