PAUL MCCARTNEY & RINGO STARR REMEMBER 20 YEARS OF GEORGE HARRISON’S DEATH

MUSICIANS Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr commemorated the 20th anniversary of the death of The Beatles guitarist George Harrison by sharing posts on social media on Monday (11/29) local time.

Harrison, known as the “Quiet Beatle” or “The Silent Beatle” died of lung cancer at the age of 58 on November 29, 2001. He became the second Beatle to die after John Lennon on December 8, 1980.

“It’s unbelievable that we lost George 20 years ago. I really miss my friend. Love Paul,” McCartney wrote on his Instagram account.

The 79-year-old musician also uploaded a black and white photo of himself playing guitar with Harrison. The photo was taken by his late wife, Linda McCartney. Meanwhile, Ringo Starr shared a sepia photo with Harrison posing with cigars in their mouths.

“Peace and love to you George, I miss you. Peace and love Ringo,” the 81-year-old wrote.

Citing People on Tuesday, McCartney said he had treated Harrison like his own little brother. He also often remembers the figure of the deceased when he sees the fir tree that Harrison gave him which is now growing near McCartney’s house in England.

“George loves horticulture, he is a very good gardener. He gave me a tree as a gift. It’s a big fir tree and it’s near my gate,” he said on NPR’s “All Things Considered” last year.

Harrison, who joined The Beatles in his early teens, was the youngest member and enjoyed a successful solo career after the band’s disbandment thanks to hit albums such as “All Things Must Pass” and “Living in a Material World”.

The journey of the legendary music group has received new attention from Disney+, which recently launched the documentary “The Beatles: Get Back”. The film, which premiered on Thursday (11/25) tells the story of the band’s final album, “Let It Be”. [antaranews]
