GARUDA Indonesia does not want to operate the Boeing 737 MAX 8 for commercial flights, even though the Ministry of Transportation has allowed it.
According to the President Director of Garuda Indonesia, Irfan Setiaputra said Garuda Indonesia is still focusing on debt restructuring that the airline is currently facing. Currently, this state-owned airline only has a fleet of Boeing 737 MAX 8.
“While it’s still like this, we haven’t flown it yet. We’re currently PKPU. We’re 100 percent focused on restructuring,” said Irfan when contacted recently.
Previously, the Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub) again allowed the Boeing 737 MAX 8 to fly from Monday (27/12). This permit is in accordance with the letter from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation of the Ministry of Transportation A4402/8/6/DRJU.DKPPU-2021.
The letter signed by the Director General of Transportation Novie Riyanto said that this revocation was after changes to the design and evaluation of the Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft.
“The Directorate General of Civil Aviation has determined the lifting of the operating ban for all Boeing 737-8 (737 MAX) aircraft, which are operated by Indonesian aviation operators in the airspace of the Republic of Indonesia and is effective as of the signing date of this letter,” Novie wrote in the letter quoted in the letter, Monday (12/27).
In addition, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation also issued the DGCA AD airworthiness order No. 21-12-001 with Subject: Air Transport Association (ATA) of America Code 22, Auto flight; 27, Flight controls; and 31, Indicating/recording systems that are effective for 737-8 (737 MAX). The order must be obeyed by the flight operator before re-operating the aircraft.
“Flight Operators are required to meet the operating conditions required by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation before they can operate commercially,” Novie concluded. [sources/photo special]
