THE INDONESIAN Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy believes that all parties, including tourists, have the same desire for Bali tourism to be maintained, both for natural and cultural resources.
According to the Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, Sandiaga Uno, Wednesday (7/26), 2023 in Merusaka Nusa Dua, Bali, said all tourists definitely want Bali to be maintained, all tourists want Bali to remain beautiful. Therefore, I am not too worried about the plan of the Provincial Government of Bali to set a tourist tax of IDR 150,000 (about US$10) starting in 2024. This fee will be used by the Provincial Government of Bali for the development of Bali tourism.
“Such as waste management, protecting mangrove ecosystems, coral reefs, cultural preservation, and developing tourism infrastructure, and others. (Narrative) We certainly hope this fee is not an additional new cost, but a contribution (of tourists) to environmental preservation for the coming years so that the tourism ecosystem in Bali is maintained,” he said.
Sandiaga explained, I ensured that the application of this tourist tax would be socialized properly. So friends, please be patient because later the Provincial Government of Bali will continue to update, then coordinate with the Task Force (Bali Tourism Management Task Force) because this is for conservation, for the sake of environmental sustainability, so that the preservation of customs and local wisdom is maintained.
He is also not worried if later other regional governments will apply the same thing regarding tourist taxes. He also has not seen a tendency from other regions to impose taxes on tourists.
“More than 50% of these foreign tourist visits have been to Bali and the growth has been strong and has been accepted by world tourism. But other areas are not yet known, so we better be very careful in applying additional costs. If Bali is perhaps already in a position that can offer a contribution to conservation. We have to build that narrative,” Sandiaga concluded. [traveltext.id]
