THE INDONESIA’S Tourism and Creative Economy Ministry appeals to tourism and creative economy business actors who have accommodation on the beach to continue to comply with the applicable coastal regulations so that people can continue to carry out their activities, as the beach is a public area.
According to the Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, Sandiaga Uno, at the Sapta Pesona Building in Jakarta recently, said we have conveyed that the beach area is a public area. So, what needs to be emphasized is that investors still need to pay attention to coastal regulations. There is no private beach, everything is public.
Minister Sandiaga in response to a dispute that occurred some time ago, on May 25, 2024. A dispute between tourists and the hotel in Soba Wawi Village, Lamboya District, West Sumba Regency. According to circulating information, the dispute occurred after the hotel banned tourists from surfing.
Sandiaga explained that the rules for the ownership and use of beach functions are strictly regulated in Presidential Decree No. 51 of 2016 on Beach Boundaries. Since the beach is a public area and state-owned land, it is prohibited to use it as a private area or to privatize it.
“So, we will continue to coordinate, work with the regional government for public relations and for tourism and creative economy actors to provide access to the public. As long as it doesn’t disrupt order and security,” he said.
The Tourism Ministry also appealed to stakeholders to continue implementing the principles of quality and sustainable tourism. Starting from sustainable management (tourism business), long-term sustainable economy (socio-economic), cultural sustainability that must always be developed and maintained (sustainable culture), as well as environmental aspects that are well maintained and preserved (environmental sustainability).
