THE MINISTRY of Tourism reported that 13.98 million foreign tourists visited Indonesia between January and November 2025.
According to the Ministry of Tourism’s Monthly Report, the number of foreign tourist visits increased by 10.44 percent compared to the same period the previous year, which reached 12.66 million. Visits were still dominated by tourists from Malaysia, Australia, Singapore, China, and Timor Leste.
“These five countries cumulatively contributed more than 56% of total foreign tourist visits in November 2025,” said Tourism Minister Widiyanti Putri Wardhana in an official statement confirmed recently in Jakarta.
From an air entry perspective, foreign tourist visits are still concentrated at five main airports: I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport in Bali, Soekarno-Hatta Airport in Jakarta, Juanda Airport in Surabaya, Kualanamu Airport in Medan, and Yogyakarta International Airport.
Cumulatively, the difference between international tourist arrivals and domestic tourist trips increased from 4.52 million in January-November 2024 to 5.64 million in January-November 2025.
Meanwhile, Deputy Minister of Tourism Ni Luh Puspa added that during the same period, the number of domestic tourist trips reached 1.09 billion. This achievement surpassed the government’s 2025 target of 1.08 billion trips.
These two figures are considered evidence of strong and sustainable growth in the tourism sector. This composition demonstrates the strength of the regional market and serves as a reminder of the importance of strengthening connectivity, targeted promotion, and improving service quality to expand the market to other regions.
However, she highlighted the challenge of achieving equitable distribution of destinations, given that more than 61% of domestic tourist trips are still concentrated in five provinces on the island of Java: East Java, West Java, Central Java, Jakarta, and Banten.
The Ministry of Tourism then encouraged destination diversification by strengthening priority destinations, regenerative destinations, and developing tourist villages outside Java.
Citing data from the Ministry of Transportation, from December 18, 2025, to January 4, 2026, the number of travelers to 10 priority tourism destinations and 3 regenerative destinations reached 11.81 million, representing a 10.95% increase compared to the same period last year.
To welcome the 2025 Christmas and 2026 New Year holidays, the Ministry of Tourism took structured and coordinated policy measures, such as issuing circulars to regional governments and tourism businesses equipped with CHSE and disaster management modules, and coordinating across ministries and regional governments to ensure the safety, comfort, and security of tourists.
Other efforts undertaken by the Ministry of Tourism include ensuring transportation incentive policies and offering a variety of promotional packages for Christmas and New Year-themed tours through various national campaign channels, including the #DiIndonesiaAja digital campaign, as well as tourism exhibitions such as the Proud to Travel in Indonesia Travel Fair and the Wonderful Indonesia Tourism Forum.
The BINA (Shop in Indonesia Aja) Indonesia Great Sale 2025 program was also introduced as a collaboration with partners. During its implementation, the BINA Indonesia Great Sale recorded a transaction value of approximately IDR31 trillion. [sources/photo special]
