SPRING AIRLINES’ INAUGURAL FLIGHTS FROM GUANGZHOU & SHENZHEN TO JAKARTA

INDONESIA’s Ministry of Tourism welcomes Spring Airlines’ strategic move to officially expand air connectivity between the People’s Republic of China and Indonesia by opening two new flight routes: Guangzhou–Jakarta and Shenzhen–Jakarta.

According to the Deputy for Marketing at the Ministry of Tourism, Ni Made Ayu Marthini, in Jakarta on Monday (06/22), 2026, the opening of these two routes is a concrete manifestation of strengthening air connectivity and strengthening tourism ties between Indonesia and China.

“This momentum is marked by the arrival of two inaugural flights on two consecutive days. The inaugural flight from Guangzhou to Jakarta landed at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport on Tuesday (06/16), 2026 at 9:10 PM WIB with a seat occupancy rate of 92.5%, or 172 passengers,” said Ni Made Ayu.

The following day, Wednesday (06/17), 2026 at 6:20 PM WIB, the inaugural flight from Shenzhen to Jakarta also arrived at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport with a seat occupancy rate of 95.6%, or 178 passengers. As a token of appreciation and a warm welcome, all passengers on both flights received Wonderful Indonesia-themed souvenirs upon arrival in the arrivals hall.

Ni Made Ayu explained that Spring Airlines will subsequently operate round-trip flights from Guangzhou to Jakarta three times weekly, on Tuesdays, Fridays, and Sundays, using Airbus A320 aircraft. Meanwhile, the Shenzhen to Jakarta route will operate twice weekly, on Wednesdays and Saturdays.

“The presence of these two new flight routes is a proactive response to accommodate the increasing number of international tourists from China, which is showing a positive trend, particularly to Jakarta,” said Ni Made Ayu.

She added that the Ministry of Tourism will continue to support various efforts to improve air connectivity between Indonesia and China as a strategy to strengthen national tourism competitiveness.

“This step is expected to attract more Chinese tourists to visit Indonesia on a sustainable basis, thereby maintaining their interest and increasing their visit in the future,” she affirmed.

This optimism aligns with the positive performance of the Chinese tourist market, which has consistently ranked among the top five countries contributing to foreign tourist visits to Indonesia.

Based on data from January to April 2026, the number of Chinese tourist visits reached 491,726, a 25.58% increase compared to the 391,578 visits recorded in the same period in 2025.

As one of Indonesia’s main gateways, Jakarta plays a strategic role not only as a tourist destination but also as a center for business, meetings, and mobility. With its diverse urban tourist attractions and modern lifestyle, Jakarta is expected to become a starting point for Chinese tourists to continue their journeys to various prime destinations throughout Indonesia.

The increasing availability of direct flights from these two major Chinese cities is expected to increase the flow of foreign tourist visits, strengthen the distribution of tourist movement to various destinations, and make a significant contribution to national economic growth. [traveltext.id]
